Love Potion Commotion by Kristen Aguilar

Being a witch doesn’t mean you’re immune to boy problems, as Nina learns when it comes to her crush on David, a new boy at school. Despite David's friendly behavior, Nina finds herself too nervous to talk to him, let alone ask him to the upcoming school dance. That is, until she comes up with a solution—a love potion. Nina is sure the spell will solve her problems, but things quickly spiral out of control, with some unintended consequences. Can Nina figure out a solution before the commotion gets worse?

My Review:

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Four Point Four Stars

Nina and Mateo are no ordinary kids, but are learning magic from their parents at home, after their normal school. But with a dance coming up and Nina’s new neighbour, Nina realizes that she is too tonguetied around David to enjoy herself.

Like a witch that she is, Nina decides to make a love potion to ‘fix’ things for the dance.

Does the love potion work?

Lovely story and I especially enjoyed Nina and Mateo’s dynamics and the fact that Nina learns magic and also starts paying attention to the boy next door.

There were a few black and white illustrations in the story that added to the fun of the story. Cute magic world building and lovely family relationships. And one ‘jinxed’ cat. Good, fast read for middle grade students.

Thank you for the eARC Netgalley.
